Mandarins are domesticated around 3000 years ago in Northeast India. The fruit became known in West Europe in the beginning of the 19th century.

The cultivation happens in tropical and subtropical regions. The main producers are China, Spain and Brazil. Our fruits are coming from the first two countries. Our main variety is our assortment is Satsuma, with Chinese origin. The quality of Chinese mandarins is in general higher than the fruits coming from Spain, because in China most of the time they are carefully handpicked.

Mandarins can be offered peeled or unpeeled. For some applications it can interesting to coat the mandarin segments with starch, in that way the water is better retained in the fruit.
